The current state of affairs

In this time of instability one thing is for certain, that change has arrived.

Gas and food prices have reached highs that have become unbearable.Nuclear confrontation is looming on the world stage between major players.Uncertainty and fear has risen in the hearts of most. Are we on the brink of a global catastrophe, another world war in the making?Have we reach the end times prophetically proclaimed by religious sects? What is it?

The view that I hold is that whatever it is there is still no need to fear the future. The economic crisis that we are facing is not a haphazard event but one that was set into motion from a few years back with the September 11 attacks being the catalyst. The attacks were horrific in their nature and these events threatened not only the stability of the United States but the world in general. It showed the world that religious zeal married to endless financial backing can create disastrous effects.

While most of us were paralyzed with fear through the terror that the attacks brought about ,an elite few saw something else. There is a rather cold and calculating saying that "when there is blood on the streets ,you buy land". In these times ,it is a shift from land to goods as the commodity of choice.

There is still a battle waging in the western world between mercantilism and the lassiez -faire approach to economies. The former built on the belief that the merchants should rule the economies while governments benefit from their taxation.Merchants prosper and the working class barely make it. The latter holding the view that everyone should be allowed to make a run for material gain with little or no government interference resulting in the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.Communism has collapsed and capitalistic approaches to socialistic societies have increased the number of participants in the battle. The war has moved further east.

Right now it seems that the mercantilism has resurfaced.Goods and services have reached remarkable highs.Governments who have mechanisms put into place to avoid collapses of economies are sitting on their hands waiting to see what transpires. There is clearly an attempt to raise the value of good and services to a higher level.

Oil and food prices, barring an alright global conflict, while eventually taper off.The result being that they will be higher than a decade ago.The question is will wages reach the same level? As usual the middle or working class bear the brunt of the fallout.Oil companies have made huge profits.Commodity brokers because of so many transactions earning huge commission fees.On the contrast ,banks built on the transaction of the average consumer have taken a hit.People are losing their homes and their investments. The middle class being squeeze once again.

A partial solution has risen.Instead of alright panic, consumers have cutback and streamlined. Some like myself are hopeful and are preparing themselves for the upturn and want to be in a position to take advantage of it.The cutback could results in high inflation ,an enemy to all. The fear of the "I" word has seemed to cause the merchants to retreat a little as seen in the sudden decline in oil prices. The speculators are being smoked out by the system.Even George Bush commented at the spectacle that has unfolded in our lifetime by stating "Wall street got drunk". Well here comes the hangover.

Even though things are tough a lot of folks are making it,barely but making it.These times should be use as a learning tool.I believe it has made people prioritize what is more important to them. The pursuit of happyness or just contentment and enjoying one lives through positive experiences and family fulfillment. The cutbacks in jobs should show us that to the corporate world we are just a cog that cannot either be replaced or simply redesigned out of existence. It should show governments that Franklin Roosevelt had the right idea by fathering social programmes to stimulate economic growth and stability. Is that not one of the duties of governments especially democratic ones?"FOR the people,by the people,of the people".If you fully divest yourself from the social upkeep of the populace then the populace have no need for you.You will become a parasitic organism that must be purged from the system.Valuable lessons never learned are costly mistakes repeated.
For all change has come.Let us grasp the positive aspects from it to improve the welfare of ourselves and each other and not just the "well faring" of a few .The direction of the current state of affairs should not be left to chance but to a collective, concerted effort to further advance the human race.I am an optimist at heart with a realist nature. These times while disheartening and discouraging are simply a test of inner fortitude and resilience. Those who can make it through will come out more purify. Those who have fallen should be assured that they can rebound.Hope should never be lost ,after all right now, that's all that we have.

Stay in the trenches.Hold the line.
